Friends are swimming to collect Money for Pádraig

Even though his country let him down, the Irish Speakers (Gaeilgeoirí) are standing their ground for Pádraig Schäler, the young Irish man who was badly injured in a traffic accident last June.

The Friends will be in the ‘mouth of the sea’ next month in order to gather funds for Pádraig. It’s a challenging swim in every county in Ireland that has a coast, over a period of two days, There will be at least forty people taking part.

How it went – Report from the organizers

We’re all done!! It was a great day at the pool!! We raised €1408!!

We had swimmers young and old down! Five little guys and girls came from Tallaght swim team, 3 from Aerlingus and 3 from Atlantis who came down with their mums and dads after seeing the post on the swim Ireland website! One 9 year old from Atlantis had never swum more than 400m before and did the whole mile non-stop!!

The support was amazing today I wish you could have witnessed it! We supplied some sweets and treats afterwards and everyone was just so happy to have taken part!! I even managed to do some butterfly towards the end of my mile!!

We had some crc and Westwood crc ex pats and some master swimmers from around Dublin who saw the post too! We also had a couple of strangers who were just coming down for a swim and decided to take part! We had some posters made up and everyone who took part signed one so we’d love to send it on to you if you don’t mind sending me your address in Hamburg! I’m going to get it laminated so it can be clean for the hospital:)

Everyone was asking loads about Paddy and wishing him well! We took a few pics so I’ll pass them on to you too when I get them off the camera!

We’re already thinking of more events to have. I would actually love to make it over to Hamburg and hopefully in the future I’ll get to you all and we can sit in the rose garden!!

Thinking of you all!!

Oíche ar son Phádraig/A BYOB fundraiser for Pádraig (06 Dec 2013)

131206 1476011_10153551068795371_358603705_nBuíochas ó chroí do chuile dhuine a d’fhreastal ar an Oíche BYOB ar son Phádraig oíche Aoine. Bhí Club an Chonradh dubh le daoine, agus ó seanchairde go tacaitheoirí nua, tháinig gach éinne le chéile don ardfhear é féin. Gan aon agó beidh Pádraig ar buile gur chaill sé amach ar oíche den chéad scoth sa Chonradh, ach mar sin féin bhí a láithreachas le brath ag chuile dhuine ann. San iomlán, leis an gcrannchur fíor-shiamsúil san áireamh, bailíodh €4,277.70 le tús dochreidte spleodrach a chuir leis an tiomsú airgid ar son Phádraig. Míle buíochas arís don 250+ duine a d’fhreastal ar an oíche agus do gach éinne nach raibh ábalta teacht ach a thug tabhartas flaithiúil. Caidé mar thús! Caidé mar oíche!
Heartfelt thanks to all those who attended Friday night’s BYOB in Club an Chonradh. The bar was packed from wall to well with old friends, new supporters, and everyone else in between who came together for the big man himself. No doubt Pádraig will be raging to have missed out on such a great night but still his presence was felt by all who attended. The event, ever-entertaining raffle included, raised a whopping €4,277.70 to kickstart the fundraising on what was a very memorable evening. Thanks again to the 250+ people who showed their support on the night and also to those who could not attend but made a generous donation. What a start! What a night!
